Another body was uncovered Friday on the suburban property of accused killer John Gacy, bringing the total number of bodies linked to 30. The skeletal remains were dug up by Cook County sheriff’s police under the driveway area of Gacy’s property at 8213 W. Summerdale Avenue in an unincorporated area south of Park Ridge. The remains, covered by plastic and buried under concrete and blacktop, were “in remarkably, good condition,” investigators said. Dr. Robert Stein, Cook County medical examiner, who was at the scene, said the skeleton’s jaw and teeth are intact. An effort will be made to match the teeth against 160 sets of dental charts on file in Stein’s office.
A wedding band was found on the body, reportedly on the ring finger of the left hand. Investigators said the ring might help locate a wife or other relative. If the remains were those of a married man, he would be the first known married victim and would widen the scope of the investigation to include missing men who were married. Edmund Dobbs, chief of the sheriff’s police said digging at the property will continue, “until we are satisfied there are no more bodies there.” The body Friday was the first tied to Gacy to be found since December 30. Though Gacy has provided, considerable information to police since his arrest December 21, investigators said he made no mention of anybody buried where this one was found.
