Body Exhumed from Cemetery May be Serial Killer’s Victim

Authorities have exhumed a body from a New Albany cemetery to determine if the unidentified remains were the victim of a serial killer. Floyd County Police Detective Jeff Topping says the remains dug up Monday from the West Haven Cemetery may be those of Jerry Williams-Comer, who was 34 when he disappeared from Indianapolis in August 1995. About a month later, the body was found in a wooded area in southern Indiana. Topping was contacted about the body by the Doe Network, a group that seeks to solve cold cases. The group believes Williams-Comer may be a victim of Herb Baumeister, a suspected serial killer from Indianapolis whose victims included gay men he met in bars. Baumeister killed himself in Canada in 1996.
