We, The Jury, Find John Gacy Guilty of Murder
In a two-hour session, the John Wayne Gacy jury found him guilty on 33 counts of murder and two other charges. As the courtroom drama concluded, families and friends of victims wept and quickly left the room. Among those at the trial was Kerry Piest, the sister of murder victim Robert Piest. At right is Eugenia Godzik, who spoke briefly to reporters. She is the mother of another victim, Gregory Godzik. Gacy’s defense attorney, Sam Amirante left the court somberly.
The jury in the Gacy trial files from the courtroom during the lunch break Wednesday. Less than four hours later they would deliberate and reach the verdict. After the trial, the prose- successfully proved all 35 charges against the defendant. In the investigation of the John Wayne Gacy case, investigators found 33 bodies for which he was charged with murder. Twenty-two of the victims were identified, and 11 remain unidentified. The clerk at his trial Wednesday read each of the 35 verdicts on the charges against him, and then read out the 22 names of the known victims and the case numbers of those unknown. Gacy was charged with deviate sexual assault and taking indecent liberties with a child in addition to the murder charges.
