Keith Arthur Klingbeil (23)

Born
Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida
Death
6 Jul 1978, Mission Viejo, Orange County, California
Tragically, Keith Klingbeil is one of the victims of California serial murderer, Randy Kraft who was convicted of murdering 16 men and boys between 1972 and 1983 and is on death row for his crimes. He was known as the “Scorecard Killer.” He was known to have killed at least another 51 young men and boys and is the most prolific serial murderer in California history.
Klingbeil’s body was discovered on the San Diego Freeway south of La Paz exit near Mission Viejo area. He had been thrown from a moving vehicle. Klingbeil’s bootlace was missing from his left hiking boot. The cause of death was drug poisoning and strangulation. He was sexually mutilated and his left nipple was burned with an automobile cigarette lighter. Klingbeil was found a mile from where Kraft was arrested almost five years later. Klingbeil was a hitchhiker and had a crippled leg from a motorcycle accident. Klingbeil was hitchhiking “HIKE”, found with a Long Beach “LB” matchbook and was with “OUT” a “BOOT” lace. Prosecutors believe Klingbeil is linked to the coded word “HIKE OUT LB BOOTS” represented on Kraft’s Scorecard found in his trunk the night of his arrest.
