He was known as the “Scorecard Killer.” He was known to have killed at least another 51 young men and boys and is the most prolific serial murderer in California history.
Crotwell’s severed head was discovered near the 72nd Street jetty on May 8, 1975. Crotwell’s body, except for his hands, was found near El Toro on October 18, 1975. Crotwell was last seen alive leaving Belmont Shore parking lot with Kraft. Crotwell was unconscious in the front seat of Kraft’s Mustang, while his friend Kent May was unconscious in the back seat. A witness saw Kraft pull into the parking lot next to the Belmont Plaza Pool and push May out of the car and drove off with Crotwell. May told police Kraft supplied drugs and alcohol to him and Crotwell then he soon passed out. Kraft was arrested and questioned by the police about Crotwell but was released due to lack of evidence. Crotwell was last seen leaving the “PARKING LOT” with Kraft. The coded word “PARKING LOT” is represented on Kraft’s Scorecard found in his trunk the night of his arrest.
