Unidentified Man Exhumed After 13 Years, Jerry Williams-Comer Disappeared from Indianapolis in August 1995.
The remains of an unidentified man who was buried 13 years ago after he was found dead in Floyds Knobs were exhumed yesterday in an effort to determine if he may have been the victim of a serial killer. Jeff Topping, a Floyd County police detective, said there is reason to believe the remains dug up from West Haven Cemetery in New Albany are those of Jerry Williams-Comer, who disappeared from Indianapolis in August 1995.
About a month later, a body was found in a wooded area in the 4500 block of Old Vincennes Road, about 100 feet from the street. Topping said the possible link between the body and Williams-Comer was brought to his attention by the Doe Network, a Web site run by volunteers who seek to solve cold cases and unexplained disappearances. A woman who works for the network told Topping that Williams-Comer, 34, disappeared shortly before the body was found, that both were white males around the same age, that Williams-Comer had bad knees, and that surgery had been performed on one knee of the body that was found. According to the Doe Network Web site, police suspect that Williams-Comer may have been a victim of Herb Baumeister, a suspected serial killer from Indianapolis.
