Suspect Arrested in Murder of Gays
San Francisco police announced a breakthrough today in a string of homosexual murders in the downtown area during the past year. Homicide Lt. Charles Ellis, who announced the breakthrough, said that one man has been arrested and another was expected to be charged within hours. Raushee Onez, 32, was arrested at 3 a.m. today and booked for two killings, one last Friday and one last November. The Tenderloin area has been searched for months by police looking for a knife-wielding killer who attacked transvestites in their rooms.
Areas frequented by transvestites have been circularized with posters warning “Drag Means Death,” including gory photos of the victims. The San Francisco Tavern ” Guild, an association of gay bar operator, and the Helping Hands Center have posted a $550 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killers of two transvestites, Donald Vasquez, known as Barbarella and Joseph Rodriguiz, known as Yancey Linda Onez is not charged with either of these slayings. At least one other slaying was known to fit the patterns and police were checking to see if other killings may be connected. Police, however, refused to elaborate on their investigation for fear of jeopardizing their case.
