At any given moment, there may be up to 100,000 individuals reported missing in the United States, with as many as 600,000 reported each year. Although many are found safe, some become long-term missing cases.

Simultaneously, federal, state, and local medicolegal death investigators tirelessly work to identify thousands of deceased individuals across the nation. According to the 2018 Census of Medical Examiners and Coroners, over 11,000 sets of unidentified human remains are in the custody of medical examiner and coroner offices in the U.S.

Approximately 28% of LGBTQ youth have reported experiencing homelessness or housing instability at some point. Those who have faced such challenges are two to four times more likely to report depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempts than their peers with stable housing.
