23 Dec 1973, San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, California
Tragically, Vincent Mestas was one of the victims of California serial murderer, Randy Kraft who was convicted of murdering 16 men and boys between 1972 and 1983 and is on death row for his crimes. He was known as the “Scorecard Killer.” He was known to have killed at least another 51 young men and boys and is the most prolific serial murderer in California history.
Mestas’ body was discovered in Old Waterman Canyon Road near California 18. Mestas had been redressed, except for his shoes and one sock. He was sodomized with the other sock. Mestas’ face and head had been shaved. His hands were cut off and paper bags tied around the ends of his wrists. Mestas’ intestines ruptured from a stick or pencil being inserted into his urethra and his genitals had been mutilated. Mestas was known for “hustling sex” at the Belmont Shore bluff area. His roommate said he was going to the San Bernardino Mountains to do some sketching. Kraft lived a few blocks from Mestas apartment. Mesta’s name is “VINCE M”. Prosecutors believe Mestas is linked to the coded word “VINCE M” represented on Kraft’s Scorecard found in his trunk the night of his arrest.
