One senator described him, however, as “the man the best position to know what he’s talking about.” The senator added.
however, that the official’s estimate was only an approximation and was given as such. Demands Identity Disclosure of this testimony came at a time when the State department faced a demand from Sen. Bridges (R-NH) to know the identity of the persons involved in the hiring of 91 sex perverts the department said had been fired in the last two years. Bridges told the Senate yesterday that Secretary of State Acheson would like to contend that “the spying is all over and ended and the spies are gone” from the State department “because 91 homosexuals have been kicked out and pol handful of other ‘security risks’ have been allowed to resign.” “By the department’s own count, some 91 homosexuals- everyone a logical target for blackmail by spies -have been caught,” Bridges said. “Even by the half-hearted and self serving investigations the department has been conducting in the very past, these perverts were exposed.” relations subcommittee invesBridges urged a Senate, foreign tigating charges that there are Communists in the State department to call for a report on how long the sex perverts were employed before they were let out.
“How many other cases does the department have on file, pending action?” Bridges demanded. Bridges said senators are getting many letters “demanding that the State department be liberated from the Communists, and the Commie sympathizers and the fellow travelers and the Socialists and the homosexuals and the just plain incompetents who have brought it 50 low in the nation’s esteem.”.
