Deviates Flocking To Beach

Perverts are invading Miami Beach in greater numbers than at any time during the last five. years, the Crime Commission of Greater Miami said Thursday. Daniel P. Sullivan, director of the commission, told The Herald that “considerable homosexual activity in public places was noted among males and females” in a survey recently concluded by his group.
Sullivan said the routine inspection had disclosed “obvious and open flirtations among homosexuals” and ” general degenerate atmosphere, especially around the area of 22nd to 24th Sts.” This area was a notorious gathering ground for homosexuals in 1952 the last time perversion became a serious problem at the Beach, Sullivan said. The commission’s disclosures were prompted by recent reports of fights and attempted suicides stemming from discord among homosexuals and between perverts and night club entertainers. However, there was no indication of a tie-in between the increase of perverts and commercial vice. Sullivan said. “The situation seems to have developed from word-of-mouth advertising.
They all know whether a town is ‘open’ or ‘closed’.” The commission also repeated its warnings about increased complaints concerning B- girls in Beach nightspots. Two weeks ago, the commission sent letters to all candidates for the Miami Beach City Council calling their attention to the B-girl problem. The vice situation in Miami also came in for some criticism from the commission. “We have found that B-girls are still operating openly in Miami, in spite of the new ordinance which clearly makes their activities illegal,” Sullivan said.
